Cryptography is the mathematical discipline of encoding and protecting information. Modern cryptography rests on computational hardness assumptions: problems that are easy to pose but (believed to be) infeasible to solve without a secret key. Symmetric-key cryptography (AES, ChaCha20) uses the same key for encryption and decryption.
